CHARLES LYNN BRAGG

Earth Icons is a unique collection of images – take-offs on Dali, Da Vinci, Warhol, Magritte, Matisse and others – intended to remind us all to protect and preserve our planet Earth, which the artist perceives to be in peril from the escalating threats of climate change, pollution and nuclear war.

Charles Lynn Bragg

Los Angeles based artist Charles Lynn Bragg was born in 1952. Both his father Charles Bragg (World renown satirical artist ) , and his Mother, Jennie Tomao were professional artists, and his love for art began early. His father always emphasized the importance of good drawings skills, to “Chick” (as he came to be known). As a young teenager Chick Bragg started printing his father’s Limited Edition etchings, of Doctors and Lawyers twisted in their own hypocrisy. Funny stuff that made Charles Bragg famous . Soon , Charles Lynn Bragg began to create his own etching plates and Editions; different than Dad’s, more animals and Nature, the Oceans and the Deserts.

Chick Bragg and his overall education was centered on art, art history and the techniques of creating works of art from etchings to oils. Bragg attended classes at U.C.L.A., Los Angeles City College, Pierce College, and California Institute of the Arts. Thirty years later he went back to study at California State University, Long Beach and received his BFA in Sculpture, graduating with Honors in 2009.

Best known for his compassionate and prolific paintings of animals, marine life and environmental images, in 1994 he designed a grouping of four U.S. Postal Service stamps Wonders of the Sea. Also in that year Turner Publishing reproduced his works in the book Wild Lives: The Animal Kingdom of Charles Lynn Bragg. His popular images have also been seen in galleries in the United States and Japan, on school text books and internationally on dozens of products, such as posters, jigsaw puzzles, greeting cards, collector plates, t-shirts, and watches, to name a few. Among his published commissions are The Nature Company, The Nature Conservancy, The World Wildlife Fund, Earth Save and many more.

In 2010 Bragg created a series of images that are parodies of the world’s most famous paintings.  Calling them Earth Icons, Bragg put together a unique collection of images – take-offs on Dali, Da Vinci, Warhol, Magritte, Matisse and others – intended to remind us all to protect and preserve our planet Earth, which he perceives to be in peril from the escalating threats of climate change, pollution and nuclear war.
